Harms & Causes
Issue

Many employees have experienced heat-illness either first or secondhand. There are a variety of symptoms which include headache, nausea, and dehydration. These slow the employee's performance, as well as business production. Once I had heard from my fellow co-workers and experienced this myself, I decided it was time to address this issue within my workplace.

While researching, I found many possible harms in relationship to the issue, as well as causes for it.

  • According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, heat-illness is a severe health concern and can possibly lead to hospitalization, or even death.

  • Many of the employees are younger, as well, leaving them less informed about the issue.

  • Over-work can lead to employees feeling less confident about their performance, as well as concerend about their physical condition.

The plan I have developed is to implement a heat-illness prevention program for concession stand employees. By supplying informational packets and posters, employees will be able to start their journey to a healthier workplace environment.

There are many benefits to concession stand employees, supervisors, and the owner when addressing this issue:

  • Happy and healthy employees leads to a positive work environment, which then rubs off on the customers.

  • Less stress is implemented on the supervisors and they are able to focus their attention elsewhere.

  • Returning customers and booming business means more money for the owner.

The Project

Community is an important aspect of life, whether it be in the workplace, at school, or even in your own backyard. When others around you aren't in the best of situations, we look to lend out a helping hand. This is why I decided to focus on the community that I am a part of at Elko Speedway. The same situation may apply in your community, as well! Read the following to get some insight on what I'm doing to lend a helping hand.
