One thing almost everyone strives for in life is health and happiness. Workforce laws were made taking this into consideration. Extreme temperatures can cause heat-illness, or heat exhaustion. This occurs when the body has been exposed to high temperatures for a long period of time. Outdoor workers pay special attetion to this, as they typically spend multiple hours in direct sunlight. Although this is popular amongst outdoor employees, it may also effect those who work indoors without proper air circulation.

“The law requires employers to provide their employees with working conditions that are free of known dangers”

- Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA)

Heat Illness Awareness

About Me

Hello there! My name is Julia. I have been employed at Elko Speedway in Elko, MN for a year now. I work as a cashier in the concession stand. Elko Speedway is one of the last raceways in Minnesota, and is only open during the summer months - this means hot summer sun! The concession stand has no air conditioning, or fans to keep employees cool. Near all employees have experienced heat exhaustion in some way, shape, or form. I thought it was about time for someone to speak up about this issue we face at work. Health and safety of employees is the most important piece that keeps a business together. It is time we learn how to prevent these symptoms and keep our workers happy & healthy!
